Low libido/sex drive

How common is low libido in men?
It is very common, affecting young as well as older men.

What causes low libido?
There are many causes, both psychological and physical.
Some of the causes include:

  • Medications, in particular benzodiazepines (like Valium or Xanax), antidepressants, finasteride (commonly used for hair loss treatment)
  • Alcohol
  • Low testosterone
  • Low energy levels/fatigue (the cause of which must be identified)
  • Any disease process or physical imbalances occurring in the body
  • Low self-esteem
  • Stress and anxiety
  • Low mood/depression
  • Relationship difficulties.

 

There are however up to 25 other possible causes of ED.

Management of low libido
The specific cause(s) must be identified first. The treatment is then tailored accordingly.
